The Hog Roast Wednesbury team had a fantastic time catering for several different events last weekend from small family get-togethers to community gatherings, and with Sunday being St. David’s day, the crew were asked to serve one of our gorgeous hog roast feasts at a celebration which had attracted interest from over 250 people. Always up for a challenge, the team couldn’t wait to get involved in the annual event which was being organised by community representative, Megan.
Striving to keep things as traditional as possible, Megan had asked us to serve our signature classic hog roast buffet which remains one of our most popular menus to date. The client was also pleased to discover that meat-lovers aren’t the only ones Hog Roast Wednesbury caters for, and after taking a closer look at some of the other foods we have to offer, she decided that a few delicious side dishes should be added to the menu, along with a meat-free alternative for those with vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements.
On the day of the event, after setting up the cooking equipment under the protection of the catering gazebo, the team got started on preparing the locally sourced pig by rubbing it down with salt and evenly scoring the skin before roasting it over a low flame for several hours. As the meat took on a stunning golden brown colour, Hog Roast Wednesbury turned their attention to the salad and coleslaw side portions, as well as the grilled veggie skewers which were to be served with flatbreads and tzatziki dip.
As the mouth-watering fragrances wafted from the buffet table and filled the outdoor venue, the guests began to arrive, and many of them had even dressed for the occasion in traditional Welsh attire! Wasting no time, they each filled their gluten-free rolls with juicy pulled pork, crackling and stuffing which were topped off with generous helpings of homemade applesauce and refreshing coleslaw.
The event was everything Megan had hoped it would be and more, and in between listening to the live music, getting their faces painted and enjoying the fairground rides, the guests returned to Hog Roast Wednesbury for extra helpings.
