Frozen Themed Birthday Party! – Hog Roast Wilmcote

Let it go, let it go… Now that today’s Frozen-themed party is over, I seem to have a particular song stuck in my head. For Ella’s 5th birthday, she asked her parents for Frozen presents, so they decided to go the whole hog by having a themed party, too. They also went even more of the whole hog with our hog roast in Wilmcote catering service, as they asked for our hugely popular hog roast sandwiches to be served to the family and friend guests.

We arrived at the family home bright and early on Saturday morning, well before dozens of squealing toddlers and pre-schoolers turned up for the occasion. We had brought along a medium-sized hog for the 40 guests (who were mainly children but Ella’s parents said they were happy with any leftovers, as they could freeze or chill them to eat later). It would take a few hours to slowly roast, so we got to work preparing the meat for cooking. To do so, we scored it all over, then added water and smothered it in salt. Then all we had to do was turn the hog roast in Wilmcote machine on and keep an eye on it.

As we watched over the pig as it cooked, the garden was transformed into a Frozen wonderland, with personalised banners wishing Ella a happy birthday and cardboard cutouts of Anna, Elsa and Olaf everywhere. Something I thought was a great idea was a couple of cardboard cutouts that could be coloured in by the kids at the party – well, those little mites need to be kept occupied! There were Frozen theme balloons, party games and gift bags and the serving plates and cups for the children had, of course, Frozen pictures on them.

As the hog neared its completion, we started to prepare the extra dishes that Ella’s parents had asked for, including Waldorf and Caesar salads and a big tub of our tasty coleslaw. Plus in case some of the kids didn’t want to eat the pork, we had a pile of baked potatoes cooking away in the tray underneath the meat. We needn’t have worried though, as before we left it was stripped clean and many of the guests, including the kids, were helping themselves to thirds.
