12th Birthday Party, Hog Roast in Henley-in-Arden

We had a ball at Aaron’s 12th birthday party over the weekend, where we provided the tasty food for 20 of his friends as well as some of his family members. Aaron’s parents booked us in a couple of months ago and asked us to cook a hog in Henley-in-ArdenĀ for their son’s summer camping theme celebration. There would be tents set up in the huge back garden for the boys to sleep in after the party ended, as well as a traditional camp fire where they could toast marshmallows and games to play. I thought it sounded awesome!

Aaron’s parents wanted a simple ‘pig in a bun’ dinner for the party. We would take one of our smaller hog roasting machines and a smallish pig to feed around 30 guests, as well as bread rolls, apple sauce and stuffing. Additionally, we would provide some nice salad dishes including leaves and coleslaw, while Aaron’s parents would be creating some camping themed dishes for the boys, too, and a large birthday cake.

I arrived on the afternoon of Aaron’s birthday to prepare the pig to be served at teatime and the party was already in full swing. I was glad to be well away from the ‘truth or dare’ game as I scored the pig, added some water and then rubbed salt in. Seeing me do so, some of the boys came over to ask questions about this method of cooking but were soon called back to start a new game of ‘capture the flag’ and even a hilarious ‘sleeping bag race’. The ‘knot tying’ game then kept them busy and I chatted to the parents at the party while keeping an eye on my roasting hog.

Before I knew it, time was getting on, so I got out the rolls, salad leaves and coleslaw to prepare there. We do this so that everything is nice and fresh on the day. We were told last-minute about a vegetarian guest, so had brought along a lovely homemade quiche, too. We’ll always try to accommodate your needs in this way wherever we can. The vegetarian was very pleased with his quiche and the boys at the party were so quiet while munching down on our pigs in buns that I think they must have been too! Another successful event with a Hog Roast in Henley-in-Arden.
